Family Vacation, March 2016–Pirate’s Voyage

This evening’s entertainment was a trip to Pirate’s Voyage, a show and dinner venue. Having been overwhelmed by the smell and underwhelmed by the show at Medieval Times, I was somewhat leery. It didn’t help, either, that as we were literally leaving the room for the evening, we were reunited with Ms. Stephanie Hawking and her ear splitting companion. She once again admonished us that failure to immediately exit the building would result in certain doom. Being seasoned guests, we politely rejoined that she might find a lesser used orifice in which to stow her warning, and set our sails for points north.

Upon our arrival we enjoyed the “pre-show” quite a bit while the girls were made over to join the crew for twenty doubloons a piece. To add to the sense of impending danger, they had Sweeny Todd design their barber chairs. I don’t think the girls noticed.

Having added one mermaid and one scurvy pirate to our ranks, we sallied forth into Buccaneer Bay.

The food, unsurprisingly, was mediocre, but the show was excellent. We were treated to swashbuckling, acrobatics, juggling, fire taming, sword fights, cannon fire and a special appearance by the ghost of Davy Jones. The only part I found offensive was the staff of sea lions who, despite their corpulent habitus, way outperformed me on any number of athletic feats.

I’ve never met a more boastful group of Otariidae in my life. Saucy sea lions aside, a good time was had by all. Even better, our pirates, Team Sapphire, won the day and sent the Crimson scallywags to their doom.

Sure, it cost a bounty of booty, but it was a delightful evening I am sure we will all remember for many tides to come.
